About Herefordshire

History
It is doubtful that any part of Britain is more richly endowed with natural beauty and historic interest that this region.

Ancient history is reflected in the cave-dwelling at Arthur's cave near Whitchurch, Arthur's Stone above Bredwardine, and Iron Age forts such as those at Dinedor and Herefordshire Beacon.

Castles such as Raglan, Skenfrith, Chepstow, Grosmont and many others are relics of the Border Wars. Henry V, Lord Nelson, Nell Gwynne and other famous historical figures were born here or have close connections.

Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester all have fine cathedrals, while at Tintern is the beautiful ruin of a Cistercian Abbey. Centuries old villages of half-timbered houses abound, the most fascinating being Weobley, Pembridge and Eardisland.

Natural Attractions
Natural attractions include the Malvern Hills, the River Wye, the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains in the west, and the sandstone villages and rolling hills of the Cotswolds in the east.

The River Wye meanders through lush green fields, spills over shallow rapids, lingers in salmon pools to the delight of anglers, plunges through the gorge at Symonds Yat, and flows past the Forest of Dean before finally joining the waters of the River Severn.

Activities
Our self catering holiday cottages are set in a part of the county that is heaven for those who love the outdoor life.

Walking, bird watching, golfing, canoeing, river cruising, rock climbing, fishing and horse riding are just a few of the pursuits available to our guests. We offer free, secure storage for cycles, canoes and other outdoor pursuit equipment.

In the Forest of Dean, walkers will find many miles of way-marked paths affording safe exploration.

Our holiday cottages are also well placed for some of the country's best racecourses being only 30 minutes from Hereford and 45 minutes from Cheltenham and Chepstow .
